Alcohol..?

I recently saw some extended family that I hadn’t seen in awhile and was shocked that there was so much alcohol around. Everyone had a drink in hand (except me). There were little kids running around too and the part where no one was 100% sober bothered me. I didn’t expect it and was surprised. This is the only context I have since I haven’t seen them in a while. It seemed very normalized for everyone to have brought and drink alcohol together. Nothing bad happened. Is this normal???
