Feeling set up to fail at my new job.

Work Advice

I started a new job in a field I have about 18 years of experience in six weeks ago. However, I feel like I’m looking incompetent because of a few things.

The first, is that the company has a ton of processes and procedures and they insist on uploading all of our work into a cumbersome multi-step system that they give us ZERO instructions on how to navigate. I have stated numerous times to my boss that I need process documents to know how to push things through the system and know my next steps, and he insists that I just should reach out to another coworker and put a meeting on their calendar so they can walk me through the program. The issue is that this is a daily thing, multiple times a day, and that’s not fair to my coworkers, who are somewhat civil about these requests, but cold and irritated and guiding me through clenched teeth most of the time.

The second, is that a lot of my work has to go through an approvals process with multiple people on it, and one person who they insist has say over my work is impossible to get a response from. He won’t respond to emails, texts, DM’s or reminders. He works from home most of the time so I can’t stop by his office. When I bring this issue up, I’m met with, “yeah, that’s unfortunate, but that’s just how he is.” But this guy lagging is causing me to miss deadlines and it’s hurting my relationships with external clients who aren’t aware of this process. It’s also causing me to turn my internal items in late. I’ve asked for an alternative reviewer and have been told I have to work through this guy specifically, no exceptions.

I don’t want to be seen as someone who constantly complains, but these are basic things I need to be able to complete the work I’m given. My boss has mostly shrugged this off so far. What should I do from here?
