Should I tell my coworker what the company offered me before I leave?
Today is my last day at my job—I just accepted a new position elsewhere. Two of my coworkers are also leaving soon, so it’s basically about to be down to one person in our department.
Management tried to get me to stay by offering a 10% raise and a $5k bonus. I declined because of poor management, short staffing, and many other issues that made this job unsustainable. Here’s the dilemma: one coworker is staying. She already makes less than the rest of us, and now she’ll be the only person covering our department in a 300-bed hospital. She told me she plans to ask for a raise.
The problem is, during my counteroffer meeting, my director specifically asked me to keep the compensation offer confidential. Would you tell her what they offered me so she knows what she could realistically ask for? Or should I respect management’s request and keep it quiet, even though it feels like they’re just trying to suppress pay transparency?
