Did I overreacted?
Hi everyone, I need your opinion about this situation that I am in. English isn't my first language so please bear with me. I'm from the Philippines, and just moved to Australia to pursue my master's degree (I'm an international student) and I met this girl who's also in the program. She's half Italian half Cambodian but she grew up in Australia then moved back to Cambodia during her high-school and undergraduate degree. We've been dating for 4 months. For context, every time we hung out at my place I would cook her Filipino dishes as per her request. Last month she was talking about footy season starting soon, and I didn't know what it meant so I asked her and she simply said "oh I forgot you're not Australian" I just laughed it off but I jokingly said "I've been cooking you Filipino dishes and you forgot?" She did apologise right away though. But then it happened again, yesterday. I was at the grocery after work and I asked her if she wanted anything and she asked for Freddo the frog (its a cadbury chocolate), I wasn't sure what she meant and asked she said the same thing "I forgot, you're not Australian". I didn't say anything because I was really exhausted from my shift, when I got to her place I was just quiet and she asked why I was acting weird then I told her about the rough shift that I had and that her comment about forgetting that I'm not Australian after I said that I couldn't stop crying. She was calm and apologised but she did my reaction was over the top and she just genuinely forgot and didnt mean anything malicious about it. At this point I got up and told her that I didnt wanna sleep at her place, I just wanna be back to my bed. She just sent me a text this morning apologising again, and insisting her comment wasn't malicious, and that I shouldn't have taken my it too seriously. I explained why her comment was hurtful, but she hasn't replied yet, it's 11PM now and she still hasn't replied yet not even to check how I'm doing.
Honestly, I dont think I was in the wrong and I don't think my reaction was over the top, but my friends told me to give her a benefit of the doubt, so idk. Do you guys think I overreacted?
