Letting an app access download folder

So I'm using an app that I'm trying to migrate to a newer version that's a fork App 1 is able to use it fine but when I try to point app 2s download to be the same as app 1 the option to do it is grayed out and saying it's for my privacy so i can't point there is there any way I can fix this?
