Need Advice on a project about the Civil Rights Movement
Hi everyone,
I'm a relative newcomer to ArcGIS Pro and I'm working on a history project that I'm excited about but stuck on the final visualization.
The Project:
I'm mapping the locations of various civil rights groups and individuals who traveled to Selma, Alabama in 1965 to participate in the marches with Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. I have a point layer with all their origin cities (e.g., New York, Chicago, San Francisco, Boston, etc.) and I've created a point for Selma itself.
My Data:
- A point feature class of ~30 origin cities across the US (and a couple in Canada).
- A single point feature class for Selma, AL.
Where I'm Stuck:
I have all the points on the map, but I'm struggling with how to best show the movement and tell the story. A simple dot map doesn't convey the powerful narrative of convergence on Selma.
I've tried the "XY To Line" tool to create origin-destination lines, but I'm not sure it's the most effective method, and I'm also unsure how to style everything.
The goal is to create a map that intuitively shows how people from all over the country mobilized and converged on one pivotal location.
Thank you in advance for any advice you can offer!
