Thoughts on/Experiences with XV40 (2007 - 2011) Toyota Camry in 2025?
TLDR; Thoughts on owning an older Camry, specifically a XV40 2008 Camry 2.4V with minor issues and 64tkm on the odo in 2025?
Hi, I'm considering buying a 2008 Toyota Camry 2.4V for my first car. I don't see a lot of posts about older Camries so I was wondering what people think of it, if possible for this specific model, in 2025.
The reason I'm looking at this year/model of Camry (XV40) is that, within my budget, it seems to tick all the boxes for a car I would want since it looks good, premium and timeless, its spacious and comfortable to be a passenger, its comfortable to drive (from what I've heard), its said to be reliable, and its easy (albeit probably not cheap) to replace parts here in the PH. Please do feel free to confirm/deny what I just said based on your own experiences.
I think its important to mention that one of my friends is selling one to me for a bargain. The unit he's selling seems to be fully stock and has only these issues mentioned being;
- The tires being expired (although they're still thick)
- One foglight is not working
- The driver side mirror not being powered (Although can adjust manually and easy fix daw)
- Small sun spots on roof and trunk
- The dash has worn rubber (not melted naman)
- Slight wear on the sides of the steering wheel
- Driver side inside door handles are faded
- Gas can be expensive (Although I believe I can handle it naman)
Good things mentioned are;
- All buttons still working (Curtain buttons, etc.) still working
- All indoor lights are working
- Trunk liner is pristine
- Tools are complete
- AC is cold
- Leather is good (except for one small crack on passenger seat)
- Inner roof lining is good for the most part
- Rubber seals are good, no moisture build up despite going through multiple typhoons already
- Around 64tkm on the odo
- All PMS done 2 months ago
I know a common problem with these model of Camries is oil burning issues/transmission oil issues (not sure if they're the same?) but my friend confirmed it doesn't happen with this unit. He just mentioned to do PMS every 5tkm.
With that being said, I want to know yalls thoughts on this car in general, and if possible the unit being sold by my friend? If I do get the car, I do plan to use it as a daily but also I also plan to make it a project car of sort.
While I have been told to instead go for newer economy cars instead, I'm really not looking for a newer economy car (like a mirage or vios) since if I do get that, I'd have to finance it, and I know I wouldn't be satisfied eventually wanting to upgrade to something more premium. I'd prefer to go with a more premium car despite it being older, and given my budget I decided to look at the Camry. If you have suggestions though for alternative older premium cars, please do share! Thank you!
