AITAH for siding with my boyfriend after my best friend got mad over a social media post?
*Throwaway*
Sensitive topic because its based off of something political but a little background about myself is that I refrain from talking about anything political with my closest relationships because I like to avoid conflict because in the end of the day I accept people for who they are and what they believe in but it wouldn't change my stance on anything and whatever I believe in. I also don't think that politics define personality.
So the situation, my boyfriend engaged in posting something about a protest that had a catchy phrase (for him; I didn't find it funny but w/e) and I got a text while working that one of my closest friends (F) that I've known for > 15years said that she ended up blocking him and was essentially disgusted that I am even dating the person. I then replied that I'll talk to her after my shift and when I did, I mentioned to her that she should do anything that she needs to be comfortable and that I understand her decision to dissociate from my boyfriend and that I'll do the measures that she wanted ( AKA not talking about him when with her, etc) but then the only thing that I mentioned to her was that I was upset that she is attacking me for my choices in dating him and that started to define him as a person, so I took a stance that she doesn't get to make that decision of how I view him and who he is to me and that in reciprocal, I have never judge her for her choices of partnership.
She then went on to talk about how he's a horrible person to his core because of his political stance and viewpoint (which again social media actually doesn't show his entire viewpoint) and such. So I consistently reiterated that, she's entitled to her opinion but that I am not in charge of how and what my boyfriend thinks, but that I am proud of my relationship and am happy. (AGAIN I also admitted that I'm actually not for his stance but that I don't muzzle him)
She then started to attack me saying how she never liked him, that I am so insecure about my relationship and that I over think so much (which kinda are my insecurities that I've mentioned before in our previous conversations that she then shoved at my face) to make this matter about myself and so I essentially shut down the conversation with an ok. I responded with the matter of "when you're done putting this one instance that I didn't even engage in, let me know when you wanna talk"
She then exploded on me and implied that I tried to end our friendship over my boyfriend. I will have to say, she is emotional because she's pregnant so I tried to be as understanding as possible, but also I'm not a doormat either AITAH in this situation?
