Post-Op Bilateral Salpingectomy
My surgery was yesterday!!!
The process was so easy. I got to the hospital at 10, checked in with the front desk and was giving a special card that said "Surgery" so I could cut the line at registration. Registration went easy. The woman checking me in did said I owed a copay but that was part of an estimate that they sent me, and I spoke with someone in the billing department who told me I did not have to pay it if I wanted to bill my insurance first.
Once I told the receptionist that she said no problem and finished registering me for the surgery.
Next, we went to the surgical floor. I gave a urine sample and my bf sat in the waiting area while they took me back.
I got to the pre-surgical area and had to change into the hospital gown and everything. There was a nurse and a nurse student who went over general questions with me and I was given 3 Tylenol for anticipatory pain.
I met with the anesthesiologist who was lovely, and then my bf was allowed to come see me and say bye.
Shortly after that the doctor came in and went over some more quick details about pain, when I can bathe, etc. And then the OR was ready!
All I remember before going under anesthesia was the anesthesiologist telling me to take big breaths. I inhaled twice and was out, lol.
I remember waking up briefly while they were wheeling me back to the post-op area and I told them I felt extremely nauseous, but I went right back to sleep.
I took longer to wake up than they expected. My surgery was at 12pm, they told my bf I'd be in recovery by 12:45/1 at the latest, and then I would be ready to go by probably 1:45. I didn't wake up until about 2:15 but then I got dressed almost immediately and went home.
I did, regrettably, overdo it a little when I got home. The anesthesia wasn't all the way worn off so the pain was almost not there at all. I ate something and then took about a 4 hour nap. When I woke up I called my mum and I could feel my abdominal muscles tightening while I was talking to her, and then I felt the pain start to creep up but I ignored it for a bit which I shouldn't have done.
Then I relaxed for a few hours and watched TV. I fell asleep around 9 and was woken up at 11 by the pain in my abdomen where my right-most incision is. I was sent home with oxycodone and extra strength ibuprofen, so I took the oxy and scheduled a timer for the ibuprofen. It took effect about 30 minutes later and I was able to go back to sleep.
I did have some bad pain in my shoulders from the gas which I got up in the night to try and walk off. My pharmacy was out of gas-x which sucks but so far I've been managing without it.
I woke up a couple times in the night, sleeping for about 2-4 hours in-between bouts of being awake. I also alternated ice and heat throughout the night which helped quite a bit.
Taking the medications on time is definitely important.
Going into day 2 I am in more pain than I expected. I think I was expecting to be at like 5-6 but I'm sitting at 7-9 so far. Getting up makes it worse and for the first few minutes after sitting down again pain kind of radiates from the incisions points.
I am optimistic as the day is just starting and I'm only at the beginning of recovery though! I'll update this post as my recovery goes on :)
