Are qled or mini led really bad in dark rooms?

I’m looking to by a 43” tv for my bedroom to replace my old lg tube tv. I was all set on buying a 2-300 dollar tcl or Samsung but after reading on this sub it seems that they are not great for dark rooms. My wife mainly watches reality tv shows or the occasional nature show. I’m not looking for a crazy viewing experience but at the same time I don’t want to spend money on something that is unwatchable at night. All movies and sports are watched on a different tv. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
