How strict are background checks in India jobs?

NSFWUrgent

A friend of mine was booked in an NDPS case a couple of years ago and the matter is still pending in court. He is currently out on bail. The case wasn’t filed in the district of his permanent address but in another district. On the eCourts portal, his full name doesn’t even appear properly — only his first name is there, and since it’s a very common name there are multiple matches. His father’s name also isn’t shown in the entry.

He has been working in regular private sector jobs without issues because the background checks only looked at his local police station and his address district. Now he is preparing to interview with large consulting firms like BCG, and he’s worried about how the background verification process will handle this.

For people who have experience with corporate hiring or BGV in India — in a case like his, is it likely that a pending NDPS matter from another district will be caught in the background check? Do these checks usually stop at conviction records, or do they also dig up pending cases even when the details online are incomplete?
