What are the safest areas in Colombia for an American expat family?

Looking for some advice on where the best place in Colombia is to move. I want to move there in a couple of years (we're a family of 7, my wife, me, 5 children) and I always hear about how dangerous the country is. I am really drawn to Colombia though. Whole family are black americans, my spanish is probably a 7/10 but part of the reason I want to go there is to increase my (and my children's) proficiency in spanish as well.

I can afford to live in the more "upscale areas" if that helps with some of your reccommendations. My primary concern moving here is the safety of my children. I'd like a family oriented place, somewhere where there are other children or extracurricular activities for my children to get into.
