Small Corvette Stats?

After building and rebuilding my Corvette with the aim of making it as small and nimble as possible, my finalized design still seems much slower than I thought it would be. With the proper upgrades to manueverability, will it get any faster if I get it up to S class and throw in some upgrades? Or am I better off just having a larger corvette that matches the sluggish speed?
