Hedonites of Slaanesh: can you make them work?

So, my partner and I are into 40k and we've been contemplating getting into AoS down the line, but I can't decide on a faction. Right now Hedonites are near the top of my list because I think their models are cool and I really like the idea of running an army of pseudo-Melnibonéans. Also, my partner knows she'd play Daughters of Khaine, and lore-wise the matchup makes perfect sense. But one nagging thing holds me back: I hear Slaanesh sucks on tabletop.

Is there any way to get around this? I'm not looking to win every game, I just want to be able to put up a good fight. I get the feeling Hedonites are a glass cannon army, so maybe bringing in Phulgoth's Shudderhood to sit on objectives could be a good shout (and I like those minis too), but aside from that I'm new to AoS and don't have a firm grasp on the listbuilding yet. Any pointers? Ideally I'd like to minimize reliance on named characters, but if need be I'll bite the bullet.
