Best iPad note-taking apps for students in 2025 ✍️📱
If you’re using your iPad for studying (or planning to take one abroad), the right note-taking app makes a huge difference. We tested a bunch and here’s what stood out:
- Apple Notes (Free): Lightweight, lag-free, syncs with iCloud, and works really well out of the box. Lacks some advanced features, but perfect if you want something simple + free.
- Microsoft OneNote (Free w/ MS account): Best for cross-platform (Windows, Android, iPad). Great if you’re already using Office apps. Infinite canvas, but clunky for handwriting.
- Notability ($14.99/year): Classic choice. Tons of templates, great PDF markup, and the killer feature = synced audio + handwriting (tap your notes and hear what the prof was saying at that moment 🤯).
- Nebo ($11.99 one-time): Best if you want handwriting → text conversion. Supports 66 languages, searchable notes, gestures, but can lag sometimes.
- Noteful ($4.99 one-time): Feature-packed for power users (layers, shapes, audio, stickers). Not much in terms of collaboration, but crazy good value.
Tips: Start with Apple Notes if you’re unsure. Pick OneNote if you need cross-platform.
Use Notability if you want audio + notes in sync.
Try Nebo if you write a lot by hand and want searchable text. Choose Noteful if you want max features for cheap.
I’m curious - which app are you using right now for studying? Do you prefer handwriting on iPad or typing on a laptop?
