Racially profiled at Frankfurt Airport?

Hallo

We had a really uncomfortable experience at Frankfurt Airport . My wife and I were waiting at the arrivals area to receive our guest. Out of nowhere, the police (Polizei) came up to us and asked for our IDs and passports. My wife had her passport, but I didn’t have mine with me.

What struck us was that there were plenty of other people around mostly white but we were the only brown couple at that gate, and the police only checked us. After looking at our documents, they left without checking anyone else.

Even though they spoke politely, it completely spoiled our excitement. My wife and I just stared at each other, too embarrassed to even talk for a few minutes. It felt humiliating.

Has anyone else experienced this at Frankfurt or other German airports? Is this kind of random check common, or does it sound like racial profiling?
