Discord deleted my 20-minute voice message

:bugcatcher: Support

So I have some "Gen Z" friends on Discord some of whom are autistic and I have conditions too and for some of our non-realtime conversations it makes more sense to record audio than to type. (I like to adapt to whatever's best for the person if I can.)

I'm aware of the "soft" 20-minute limit for Discord audio recordings (the app does let you record beyond 20 minutes, but playing on all devices and platforms and versions might not be guaranteed) so I tried to stop my recording after 20 minutes and start another.

I was outside and using mobile data. The second recording was started while the first was still uploading. And then something happened (I'm not sure what) and the first recording was DELETED.

As I was not able to reproduce this problem under artificial slow-network conditions, I'm assuming it was either "cancel button was accidentally pressed somehow" (I certainly don't remember pressing it, but could the phone screen have somehow registered a tap there; bad UI design on quite a few messenger apps: they let you record very long recordings, but then there's a "cancel upload" button that permanently deletes all that work on a single press without asking if you're sure!) or else some kind of low-memory condition on my low-end Honor X6b Android 14 phone.

As I realise those of us with conditions are probably not a priority to Discord's development team I'm wondering if there's some workaround I can use to avoid this failure mode.

I can record the audio using a separate app like StereoMatch Amazing MP3 Recorder, which has the advantage of not randomly deleting your recording, and then "Share" this with the Discord conversation. But then there's a hard limit of 10 megabytes (for non-Nitro users) so I have to make sure not to approach 20 minutes, and I understand the iOS version of Discord might not be able to play OGGs so I'd better convert to MP3 before sending.

Any other ideas? Thanks.
