Aachen or Cologne for Christmas market via Maastricht?

I’ll be staying in Maastricht starting on Dec 22nd and planning on going the following day to a German Christmas market. I’ve been to the Cologne ones a few times already via Amsterdam. Aachen and Cologne both seem to be similar train journeys from Maastricht but any ideas as to which would be preferable over the other?
