Best area to move for young adult

I am from the US and have just accepted a job in Ambleside. I am looking for a place to live in the area (1 bed, 1 bath) and am needing some advice. I know accommodations are scarce in Ambleside so I have been looking at areas such as Keswick, Kendal, Windermere, etc but am unsure of what areas are best or what to be on the lookout for when considering UK housing. I am a female and am interested in a safe area with things to do. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!
