Can’t opt out of spouse’s health plan??
I got married a few weeks and my spouse and I only got around to changing our marital status. He gets health benefits from blue cross through work and I have my own separate health coverage from my work.
Because we are married blue cross automatically added me as a dependent and is charging an additional $45/month to cover me and is saying I can’t be opted out of his coverage. Is this… typical? I’ll never need to use his coverage because frankly it’s not as good. We’ll be paying $540 per month for literally nothing because I’d use my own coverage.
Does anyone else have this situation with blue cross or know a way out?
