Why are Tom and Lynette married?

All the couples have issues but usually they have more common ground than not. Like Carlos and Gaby are both terrible people (i think) - both manipulative and conniving BUT this is their common ground.
Bree and Rex had that snobby thing going on
Susan and Mike are both simpletons (forgive me but u know what i mean, uncomplicated admirable quality like a human labrador).

and then Lynette is a natural leader she wants to do things her way, when she compromises she is rarely smart about it, she always lets Tom know she is smarter. and she is. she totally is but she hates all the things Tom wants to do. and Tom, feels like, is still 14 at heart and wants none of the things that Lynette wants. I look at couples like that and ask why did u birth 4 kids to be forever chained to each other and kill any kind of joy you have in your days.

Why, guys, why?
