How to get my cat to stop biting

Hello! My partner and I just adopted two adult (~2y/o) cats last week. Things are going great so far but one of our cats has a tendency to bite when you’re petting him or getting his food ready. I have never had a cat before but my partner has had cats her whole life and she says that he does not appear to be angry or upset, rather he might be overstimulated or just a bit awkward and he doesn’t really know how to be a cat.

Either way, we really have no idea how to make him stop biting. He is really such a sweetie and he loves being pet but he will bite your hand while you’re petting him or your leg when you’re not petting him and he wants to be pet. Does anyone have some advice to help us get rid of this behavior? TIA!
