cultural appropriation for using a durag as designed?

Health / Wellness

i have some extremely curly hair, but fair skinned. most people wouldnt believe im half-hispanic. my dad has extremely tight curls, so tight you can see the wrinckles in his head, lol.

i got a slew of comments and laughs because i wore a durag as a “white guy.” i have always hated my curly hair because 10/10 balm doesnt hold it down. i have never styled it in 21 years outside of cutting it off and sporting a classic “white guy” haircut. i wear a durag so that my hair isnt a total mess. i othwrwise spend 15 minutes twice a day yanking out hairs from my scalp. it’s painful.

my end-game isn’t waves, anyway. i want my hair to grow downwards, bowl-style, but that wont happen if nothing presses it down, and if i let it frizz up every day from sleep and a hat pulling on it

at a school that is supposed to be diverse, inclusive, progressive… why am i made to feel racist for using a tool as designed? am i not allowed to style my hair?
