Is learning anatomy this important?

I've been sketching for years without learning about anatomy and I think my sketches are fine ( not that cool maybe but still ok) but I've been seeing people talking about how important it is to learn anatomy and what great difference it makes to your art, so is it really that important? And how do you learn it?
