Is it hard to apply to L1 in France with a 1-year gap after BAC? (Algerian student) Post:
Hi everyone,
I’m an Algerian student and I’ll finish high school and get my BAC in 2026. I’m planning to apply to a Licence 1 (L1) program in France through Campus France, but not immediately.
I want to take one year off after the BAC to focus on two things:
- Working as a freelance UI/UX designer
- Improving my French language level to be more prepared for studying in France
I won’t be going to university during that year, but I’ll stay productive and focused on building my skills and preparing for higher education.
A cousin in France told me that taking a year off without a diploma or certificate might make it harder to get accepted, and that French universities are selective. and i have to clarify what did during that year .
So I’m wondering:
- Will a 1-year gap after BAC hurt my chances of being accepted into L1?
- Is freelancing + improving French seen as a valid reason for the gap?
- Has anyone from Algeria done something similar and been accepted?
If anyone has experience with Campus France or studying in France after a gap year, I’d really appreciate your advice. Thanks!
