Should I still wait?

Hi! just want to ask some advice. Its been 8 days na kasi since nag submit ako ng reference character for them to check but wala pa rin update from hr. Today's the 8th day. Im on an urgent needs na talaga and badly need the job since ito ung mina-manifest ko talaga. Nag send ako kanina nga follow up email. How about u guys, gaano katagal ref. checks nio bago nakuha job offer?
