What’s the moment at work where you felt most unsafe at work?

I work as a Local Security Management Specialist at an NHS Trust, so a big part of my role is looking after staff safety. One incident that’s stuck with me was when a community nurse went to a home visit late in the afternoon. The patient’s relative was drunk, started shouting, and ended up blocking the door so she couldn’t leave.

Luckily, she had a lone worker device and pressed the alarm. She got out safely, but the experience really shook her up.

It made me realize safety isn’t just about the emergency response its also about how supported staff feel afterwards, and whether they still feel confident going out on visits.

I’m curious have you ever felt unsafe at work (whether in the community, on the ward, or even just walking to your car at the end of a shift)? What helped, or what would’ve made you feel safer?
