Taylor in Carnegie Melon

Spoiler

I really like this show but I cannot get over taylor getting into carnegie melon for a lot of reasons. Carnegie Melon has an 11% acceptance rate. There is an entire episode in season 1 about Taylor making mediocre grades. There just are bo conditions that could make me believe she academically could get in to Carnegie Melon. The university chews up overachievers for breakfast. I mean did they do no research??? Its like they googled good music schools near Connecticut. Dont even want to get into SAT/ACT scores.

Also, I used to be a competitive classical vocalist. There is NO WAY that she could get in to carnegie melon without any kind of formal training. The university literally has a repertoire requirement for your audition video.

  • One art song (e.g., Schubert, Fauré, or Barber) in English, Italian, German, or French.

  • One operatic or oratorio aria (e.g., from Handel, Mozart, or Puccini), showcasing dramatic expression and range.

  • One additional piece of the applicant’s choice (could be musical theater, but must be performed with technical rigor).

If you pass that, you’re invited to a live audition where you perform these pieces for a panel of faculty who’ve trained Grammy winners and Metropolitan Opera stars. You’re judged on tone quality, pitch accuracy, breath control, diction, musicality, and stage presence.

Its just really pisses me off that the show gave 0 consideration to the technical and academic proficiency required for this dream.
