I think I broke my thumb - do I actually have to do to the doctor?

Physician Responded

28F, Caucasian, currently 7 months pregnant. I do not smoke or drink, and never have. No outstanding health conditions, other than pregnancy, obviously.

I was at work this morning and accidentally slammed a file cabinet shut on my thumb right when I got to my office, around 8 AM. It is currently 1 PM, and it is still throbbing with pain.

Initially, it just hurt like heck and I wrote it off to being a normal, smash your finger type of pain. But then it started swelling, turning red and slightly purple, kind of seems disfigured (?), and I’ve lost feeling in the tip of it, other than a slight tingling feeling. It hurts to touch and to bend.

I tried ice and it did nothing for the pain or swelling.

I’m half convinced it’s broken by either fracture, or entirely, in the top knuckle.

My coworkers are encouraging me to go to the doctor, but I feel it’s not necessary? Can I not just go home and rest it over the weekend?

Any advice appreciated!
