AITAH for telling my friend i cant afford what we've agreed to split the cost on

I, 19F, and my friend, 18F, are both about to go to college. We have been talking about getting a suit for our housing, so we don't have to share a bathroom with anyone. But I can't afford it, I don't know what my FAFSA will cover, I haven't gotten any scholarships yet, and I don't know what student aid will cover. Even if I get a student loan, I cannot afford to pay it back, and I'm not trying to be in student debt. She is set on getting the student housing and sharing the suite with me, but we would both have to pay for the dorm. She has family who can help her cover the extra cost that isn't covered, but I don't. I found a form that allows early college students like her and me to be exempt from the required first year on campus. We've been arguing because I'm more comfortable at home, but I also want to have a college life with my friend.

I'm not just writing this as a rant, I'm asking for advice.

I've explained to her in a joking way that I wanted to know why this school had the rule about needing to stay on campus for the first year, but she just got rude and snappy with me, saying, "That's just their rule". Ok, and? everywhere has rules, but they have them for a reason; there is nothing wrong with wanting to know the reason for the rules.

If I could post screenshots of our arguments as proof, I would. But I've explained that I've been raised to want to stay home and protect my belongings because my sister will raid my room and turn it into something for herself.

I don't see why asking a question and trying to find something cheaper that I can afford is a problem. She wants to go to IKEA for furniture that is already provided by the school. I'm now texting one of my friends who is already in college to see what she says. but...

AITA for telling my friend I can't afford to pay for the suit dorm, which is about 8k for the full first year
