Working from home is not real Work

I decided I wanted to have a discussion. It can be a light hearted arguement, but keep it civil.

I will also say that working from home for people who cant work on site, like for medical or health reasons, are not whom im talking about. In fact I think that is a great example of a use for working from home.

First, when I saw work, I mean something that benifits the community. Let me tell a quick story.

I had a in person visit with my biological parent for the first time in 6 almost 7 years. They do, did, something with computers. Started as IT but move on in the field. They are traveling the country now, living in an RV. They tend to look down on me because Im nerodivergent, also because I am 26 and still living with my mom whom they still have hard feelings for after the divorce, and I dont drive/dont have a license. Let's just say, im used to them looking down on me and giving quick jabs. But this was a good visit.

At one point, jobs came up. I am a dishwasher/cleaner in the kitchen at my local hospital. I do my best to keep everything clean, on paper the health inspector has given us a 100 with each visit since ive worked there (so, 3 times). But apparently that isn't good, cause they still ask me if im going to be in the kitchen forever or if I will eventually become a cheff or something.

So I asked them what they do. And I didn't really get an answer.

To wrap this up, essentially they join a zoom meeting and "tell people what I do, then I go do that". No other detail. I know they work for a company that is fully remote. And it obviously pays for them to be able to do their lifestyle.

But I don't feel like that is really work.

Essentially, what im getting at, is if your job could disapear and the community doesn't notice, it's not work. At least in the professional stand point. It may take a lot of work, but it's not work.

And honestly, I dont believe that is so unpopular now that I type it out.

Because a coffee bartista and a steelworker have equal jobs. As in I dont think one is more important than the other, but they are not doing the same amount of work. (No shade to kitchen/retail workers. Love what you do, keep your head up)

Even on a jobsite, the laborer is working harder than the big boss who just takes phone calls all day.

And most of the remote work jobs I hear about are upper management or just "I tell people what to do."

Last thing, we also all see those videos y'all post about working from home. Napping all day or what not. Doing things around the hours just to cram an 8 hour work day into 30 mins.

We see you.
