The one-minute apology that saved our brand’s reputation

We launched a new feature yesterday that accidentally emailed 500 users twice. I spent the night debating whether to wait for support tickets or send a blanket note. At 7 AM, I hit reply all:

“Good morning. We just sent you two copies of our newsletter by mistake. Our bad no need to unsubscribe; just ignore the extra email. We’re fixing it and promise it won’t happen again.”

By noon, our support queue was silent. Instead of complaints, I saw replies like “Thanks for owning this so quickly” and “Still love you guys.”

Lesson: A concise, public apology disrupts the negative spiral and turns users into allies rather than adversaries.
