Rewards failure

I was trying to place an order today using my 1700 rewards points. I tried to redeem two items each worth 800 points. As I was placing the order it deducted a ton of my points bringing me down to 900 points without placing an actual order. Now I have just lost half of my points for no apparent reason. Has this happened to anyone else? The points were not set to expire.
