I'm getting just a little bit irked.

It's not YouTube but the crap advice I keep running across given to people who want to make their channels instantly popular.

Read my lips - it does not happen overnight.

I'm about 3 years and 1500 videos in. My current video gained 1,339 views in about 12 hours. Way above the usual 700 or 800. As of right now that has dropped back to 1279 and I fully expect it to drop back further. I don't expect it to climb back to 1339 or go beyond because this is what has probably happened....

Somebody bit the bullshit pedaled by the self-proclaimed SEO kings or the hits/liked pedalers. You know the kind of thing - pay umpteen dollars for some greasy palm in some foreign country to "optimise" or generate hits/likes for you to game the system. That kind of scammer also puts hits and likes on other videos so that it looks as though they're not raising the hits/likes on just one video. They try to disguise their fakery by dragging others into their nightmare. Of course Google knows who these tossers are and deletes the fake hits/likes. I suspect they go further and demote every video contaminated by the scammers in order to defeat the wankers that pay for their services.

I very much suspect that's why my video is now losing views that it has accrued. From a personal perspective this is very disappointing but on the other hand I can see exactly why it is happening.

People that buy those SEO and fake views/likes are really poisoning the well for everybody else.

Then there are the tosspot channels on YouTube that show you how to increase your views/likes. If those cockamame ideas they came up with actually worked, they'd be quiet about it and use them themselves without telling anybody. What they're doing is tapping into people's feelings of inadequacy and in so doing, generating views and likes for a steaming pile of poo while ensuring two things...

  1. That they make lots of money.
  2. That people who follow their crap advice fail.

I'll admit, a long time ago, I tried some of the crap advice and found it never worked. How do I do my videos?

I shoot on my CELLPHONE (or my Sony CX405). I use YouCut video editor (Android and it's free) on my short videos. I use a Linux laptop with Kdenlive as my video editor. I do not pay for anything. I often use tactiq.io to transcribe my videos and ChatGPT to parse the transcription to produce titles and descriptions.

Nowhere in this do I spend any money. If the video/short isn't getting views I might change the title a bit but that's all.

Don't be a Richard!
