Why did the man I love treat me this way?

My ex broke up with me over text. He was supposed to get on a flight on Thursday to come see me. He sent me a breakup text on Tuesday saying he won't be coming and he wants to end the relationship.

I asked for reasons. He said we weren't compatible and doesn't see a future with me. He started blaming me for things I never did. He never once said he was unhappy when we were together.

The last time I saw him was a month before that at the airport. I was waving bye saying see you soon. My chest hurts physically when I think about that memory.

I begged him to at least meet once in person. I wanted to see him once before we forget what it feels like to love each other. He refused to meet. Said he doesn't see a point in meeting me now.

Is that all I was to him? Is that my worth in his life? Someone he can discard at his convenience? He said he loved me, saw a future with me, wanted a family with me, we had been taking about getting married. All the love and memories thrown away over some texts and one call.

I feel betrayed and powerless in a relationship I gave my heart to. Why did he have to do it this way? Did our relationship not deserve some respect?
