HushJet - Did I just waste my time & money?

Discussion

Hello,

Just took delivery of two of these bad boys. We have pets (dog, cat, guinea pigs) and my wife is very sensitive to pet dander and generally finds our home's air quite inhospitable. We have central air so it's always filtered to some extent, and I have a UV device on one of our air handlers to further purify the air.

I love the auto feature of the HushJet, but here's what the air looked like as soon as I plugged it in (long before it could have done any real work):

Seems to me I don't have an air quality problem. The little graph on the LCD panel on the front basically shows a flat/horizontal green light at the bottom of the y axis. When the device is set to Auto, it doesn't really move any air, the flow is barely perceptible. I took one into the guinea pig's room where I would expect pet dander and dust from the hay and paper litter, but I see the same good air quality and again the device is mostly idle. Can this be?

I love that Dyson is honest and transparent about the air quality, but this information is causing me to wonder if it was silly of me to shell out for a premium product thinking I had an air quality problem, and thinking the HushJet could solve it. As far as I can tell, I purchased a very expensive air quality meter that always shows green.

Does anyone have any ideas how I could prove to myself that the sensors work, and that the Auto mode would be doing some work if there was any work to be done? Would you expect some homes to never have work for them to do if set to Auto? Does that mean that if I run them full blast they're unlikely to help anything?
