a custom version of Piety from Mythic Odyssey of Theros called narcissism. For example, the Spectator won't immediately gain its ray, but when it reaches 25 narcissism, it will gain 2 of its rays. Then when they reach lvl 50 narcissism, they can lvl up their narcissism lvl, which will start their progression over and gain a narcissism point (a custom way for them to evolve to a higher stat block given the right amount of them or gain a feat/ASI of the dm choice), so a Spectatorm --> to a Gauth --> to a Lorthuun --> to Beholder/emo --> to a death tyrant. They gain narcissism by doing things associated with that monster for dragons, hoarding wealth, getting worshippers, etc.
