The Onboarding Fix That Increased My SaaS Sign-Ups by 67%
You might not even realize it, but there’s a good chance your onboarding process is killing your funnel.
I learned this the hard way. My SaaS AI Backlinker had a long, clunky onboarding flow, and people were dropping off before they ever became users. Once I fixed it, my conversion rate jumped by 67% in just 2 weeks.
Here’s what worked:
1. Break down the form
If your onboarding has 3+ fields on one page, split it across steps.
When people see a wall of fields, they think: “Ugh, this will take forever” and bounce.
I used to ask for 7 fields on a single page and almost no one finished. After splitting them up and adding a progress bar, completion skyrocketed. Once users saw “30% done,” they felt committed to finishing.
2. Ask your mom for UI feedback
Seriously. My mom gave me the best UI advice.
You’ve looked at your product a thousand times—you’re blind to the small hiccups. But an average user (like your mom) spots them instantly. If she gets stuck, your paying customers will too.
3. Save the hardest ask for later
If your product requires something heavy (e.g. uploading docs, files, or info people don’t have handy), don’t ask upfront.
Get them to sign up (or pay) first. Then, once they’re committed, ask for the harder info. If you front-load it, you’ll lose them.
P.S.
I launched my SaaS (Website) 2 months ago and I’m at $3,500 MRR.
My old onboarding sucked, but these small tweaks boosted sign-ups by 67%.
