Shop Vac > Scum Sponge

Lots of posts here about surface bubbles or that thin surface layer that builds up, so I figured I’d share what’s been working for me. Another reddit user led me on to this nice trick.

I stopped using scum sponges and switched to a more hands-on routine. Once a week, I run the jets on high and use a shop vac to remove any bubbles that don’t break down right away. After the jets are off, I also vacuum up any surface bubbles that form (the kind that usually collect in corners or look like a film). This keeps the water surface clear without relying on floating sponges, and it’s been much much more effective at controlling buildup.

Has anyone else tried something similar, or do you have other tricks?
