The Methanol scare here in Brazil convinced me to stop drinking for good.

We're currently undergoing a crisis here in Brazil. A lot of people were poisoned (approximately 59 people as I write this) by consuming counterfeit distilled alcohol beverages that had been altered using methanol.

These counterfeit alcoholic drinks (including Vodka, Gin and Whisky) are identical to the official ones, don't have any difference in smell or taste. But after consuming them, people have experienced from intense nausea, vertigo and sleepiness to renal failures and permanent blindness.

I'm not taking any risks, I'll stop drinking any kind of alcohol. I feel sorry for the people who were poisoned and their families, but I'm using this as a motivation to quit drinking.

I'm also expecting that we rethink our relationship with alcohol here in Brazil. Even if it was necessary to alcoholic drinks to turn into literal poison so we can understand how unnecessary it is in our lives, it really makes us think.

Both methanol and ethanol are poison, the difference is that our bodies tolerate ethanol more easily.

I'm never putting that shit in my body again.
