J-2 Visa Wait: Remote Work for Foreign Company (IT) While Awaiting EAD? Seeking Experiences
Hi everyone,
I'm a soon to be J-2 applicant stuck in the long EAD wait (I-765). To handle the financial strain, I'm considering continuing my existing remote IT job for my foreign employer. All pay/taxes would remain in my home country.
I'm seeking experiences from people who have navigated this specific situation.
- The Core Question: If you continued remote work for a non-U.S. company while waiting for your J-2 EAD, did it cause any problems later (e.g., during future visa interviews, or an Adjustment of Status)?
- Risk vs. Reality: I'm worried about the legal status violation and potential detection (fiscalization, being reported). What precautions did you take, and how did you manage this stress?
- Alternatives: What other creative, legal ways did you use to generate income/manage finances during the wait?
Disclaimer: I understand that performing any work while physically in the U.S. without a valid EAD is a status violation with serious immigration consequences. I am only asking for anonymous personal experiences and opinions from the community.
