The best day, the last thing I remember of her
I had a friend in high school, both of us flirty.. she always had a boyfriend but would always seek me out, sit together, touch when we weren’t supposed to… she said I was perfect. I was there when she split with her bf, it was a violent fight and I grabbed her away and drug her from the house and drove her around for hours while she screamed, cried and vented herself calm. We didn’t see each other for a few weeks, she fought off new suitors from the crew we hung out with.. even moved out of state to get away. She showed up one day with a guy she met out of state, but that didn’t last long and soon she moved in with her mom back by me. I ran into one day, her car was running poorly and I offered to help. Fixed her brakes and did a plug change… she was good to go. Long before cell phones, my phone rang and it was her. We chatted for a while and she was feeling bored and wanted to do something. I got ready and went to pick her up. We drove around and talked for hours, stopped and sat by a lake and watched the waves under the moonlight. The night turned into morning and we were about 3hrs from home, so we headed back. She took my right hand and held it in her lap and rested her head against my shoulder almost the whole way back. I told her that I’d talk to her later, had to work that night. I got home from work after midnight and had a note saying “N” had called, to call her when I got home. I called her and she told me that she had been so happy all day because of me and wanted to see me again. It was another 2 days before we got to see each other, but it was worth everything. We got lost again in the drive, talking and the time. After that night, we were together constantly… For months we played around, never fully giving in to each other… but it felt better than going “all the way”… it felt new and different every time. I picked her up from her house, she seemed down and said she just wanted to be held. We ended up at a friends house, hanging out on the steps out front, I sat on the top stair and she curled between my legs and wrapped her arms around me. I played with her hair, kissed her head and held her close. She quietly looked up at me and whispered I love you.. I dropped her off at her request, saying I would see her tomorrow and that I loved her… that was the best day, the last day we were together, the last good memory
