That being said…there were two parts of the Midnight Live Q/A I found very interesting, and it got me thinking about the long requested Artificer/Tinkerer class or spec.

At 27:09, the question is asked if existing classes could receive new specs. Ion responds that Void DH is the only one they are focusing on right now, but that “whether it’s this [Void DH] or [Evoker] Augmentation, there is excitement around existing classes getting new specs…”

And as Ion is saying this…there are 3 clips shown. The first two show Undermine, and the third clip shows Plexis Sentinel from MFO.

Why is this interesting? Well throughout the entire QA, they only show clips when there is something to show—a new ability, a zone, a dungeon, etc. To help show off a feature.

This question at 27:09ish is the ONLY TIME in the video where they show a clip…but don’t have a matching feature to show. The clips they show are kind of random, and don’t line up with “old classes getting new specs”. They coulda showed the DH fight or something in MFO for random B Roll….but they don’t.

So what do the three clips they shared have in common?

All three clips show some sort of mechanical entity—the first being a mech, the second a tank, and the third being a super up magical golem.

Which got me excited once I realized this is the only clip in the whole video that doesn’t have a tied feature…and that all 3 things shown are mechanical creations while taking about new specs.

But that wasn’t enough. There is of course more.

At roughly 29:52, the question is asked if Midnight would have anything new regarding the Support role, and if it will be expanded to other classes, and if it was a “failure”, citing Augmentation and if it should be changed to DPS or Healer instead.

Ion says they are not playing on expanding it to other classes YET, but they also are not planning on changing Augmentation to be another role—they like it being this new Support role. In fact, they are going to try keep iterating on the Support specialization, and hope to make it work.

Which again…fits very well if Artificer/Tinkerer class ever came to be. Because in other games, it can be damage based…but it also is very good at making stuff to support your party—little gadgets, utility items, buffs/debuffs, augments or affixes to gear, etc.

So yea—this is all pretty wild speculation, but showing those 3 specific clips that seem entirely random could very well be a cheeky tease of some sort of engineering based spec or even class in the future.

Which class would this new spec go on? No idea. Maybe it becomes its own weird hero class type, idk.

But the game is missing something like this, and it could allow for Crossbows and Guns to mean something in the game for another class besides just Hunter—a new non-magic focused Ranged spec or class.

I’ll stop huffing hopium now.

I think there is a high chance of an Artificer/Tinkerer class or spec coming in the future, based on the recent Midnight Live Q/A
