Starting to race Ovals, question on wheel and shifting options

 Question

I mostly race Porsche Cup and GTP in iRacing but really having fun on oval tracks so I'm thinking of getting a wheel for use when racing in ovals. I have a VRS DFP wheelbase and using a Simagic Neo X hub paired with a 300mm Momo Teams wheel. I use a Xero Play QR and have a couple of spare wheel-side QRs.

I'm considering a 350mm deep dish wheel as it seems that oval drivers have the wheel right on their laps when compared to road racing setups, but is 350mm the correct size or is it too big?

With using a deep dish wheel, I wonder if I can use a Neo X hub with it as well or will everything be too far away? I race in VR and have developed the muscle memory so I can hit the rotary/button/funky I want without looking, but obviously it will be slightly different with a deep dish wheel. Should I even be considering this or should I be looking at getting at least a sequential shifter? Or should I get a proper H-shifter?

My rig is a PSR1 aluminium profile, but I don't have the side profile to mount a shifter on and would probably prefer to explore non-shifter options first, if there are any. I could get the Simagic DS-8X shifter but since I use the paddles on the Neo X for all my other racing, I'm not quite keen on buying a shifter just for ovals if I can avoid it.

Any advice and suggestions appreciated! Thanks!
