Why was Kuibyshev (Samara) chosen as the alternate Soviet capital during WW2?
Wikipedia only cites an article from 1942 which says it was chosen as a back up in case Moscow fell because of its central location in European Russia, being behind the Volga river, and a sentimental attachment to the region where Lenin was born. I assume there were more detailed reasons for it being chosen over any other city?
