How to stop greed?

I feel like as an average person, greed doesn’t get talked about enough. We assume only billionaires and corporations can be greedy but I’ve been struggling with greed lately. My mind can only think about material things and money and it is becoming detrimental to my relationship with the Lord. I can’t seem to fix it though and I pray but it only goes away temporarily. The root of this I think is my troubled childhood, in my mind I think I’m entitled to excessive things because I had a hard life but I know very well thats not true. I just need some advice, and any prayers would be greatly appreciated.
