Getting a pet dog as a single nurse?

This may be an uncommon question. I'm in my early 20s. I don't have many friends, not in a relationship, and live in my own place. I'm absolutely content with what I have at the moment. But not gonna lie it does feel kinda lonely at times all I do is work and chill and take myself out.

I have been thinking about getting a dog, which something that I have always dreamed of once I got my own place. But since we all work long hours I don't know if it's a good idea at all? I absolutely don't want to abandon my pet especially when I have to be in work 3 days in a row. Kinda upset me thinking that I still can't have a pet companion after finally living by myself 😔. Any advice anyone?
