OFW for 6 years, struggling with how much to send my amid inflation

General Discussion

I’m an OFW and for the past 6 years, I’ve been sending my mother ₱10K/month for food and ₱7K/month for my grandma’s maintenance. I’ve also bought them a car and built a sari-sari store for the family.

I used to send my father ₱5–7K/month (2019–2022), but I stopped when I heard he had a mistress. I’ve occasionally sent him money since, but rarely — he also likes to play Tong-its, so I worry about misuse.

My mother has a job but is extremely frugal. According to my father, she rarely uses the ₱10K I allocate for food, which discourages me from sending more.

Now, with ongoing inflation in the Philippines, my own financial situation as a 33-year-old single without savings or property, and knowing that my parents are not allocating the money properly, I’m torn between: • Increasing my allotment, • Maintaining it, or • Stopping it altogether.

I want to support them, but I also need to prioritize my future.

How would you handle this situation?
