Memoryloss-/gaps after father passed away??

Delayed Grief

Hi, My father passed away from cancer in July. But since after he passed, I can’t seem to remember all the memories of him that I had, I’m 29 years old btw. He left to live in another country when I was 10 y/o, but I have met him countless times since, the latest in July for 2 weeks, laying beside him as he took his last breath.

I know I have tons of memories, deep down I know they are there. But when I think of them, all is see are still shots, and my brain trying to recreate the rest, it doesn’t come automatically like it used to do. I know because I told my mom about many memories with him before, when he was still alive but still sick.

Is this grief brain?? Is my brain trying to protect me? And if so it doesn’t really do a good job because I’m stressed about not remembering the good times we had. Do I have to give it time? I’ve never heard anyone else describe my situation, Google doesn’t help much either.

All help and tips are appreciated 🤎 Thank you
