Help with Wi-Fi on my new ASUS Zenbook? (MediaTek MT7922)

SUPPORT

Hey everyone,

Hoping you all can help me out. I'm new to Arch and just installed the Omarchy setup on my new ASUS Zenbook. The desktop environment is running great, but I can't get online at all because the Wi-Fi card isn't being detected.

I feel like I've tried everything. I checked for hardware switches (there aren't any), and I dug through every menu in the BIOS until I found the Wi-Fi setting under Security > I/O Interface Security—it was already enabled. The laptop's built-in diagnostic tool says the Wi-Fi hardware passes all its tests, so the card itself is fine.

My first installation attempt actually failed with a "Broken pipe" error, and it turned out my USB stick was corrupted. I've since reinstalled fresh from a new stick, and the system boots perfectly now, just with no internet.

After some digging in the terminal, I think I've narrowed it down:

  • pacman -Qs networkmanager shows nothing, so it's definitely not installed.
  • pacman -Qs linux-firmware shows the firmware package IS installed.
  • lspci -k confirms the kernel is loading the right driver (mt7921e) for my MediaTek MT7922 card.

So it seems like the driver is loaded, but I'm missing the software to actually manage the connection.

My plan now is to use another PC to download networkmanager and its dependencies to a USB stick, then transfer them over and install them with pacman -U.

Does this sound like the right move? I'm kind of stuck without internet, so any other ideas or suggestions would be amazing.

Thanks for reading!
